Ferruginous Hawk

Juvenile light-morph ferruginous hawk. This sequence of photographs was taken on Dec 12, 2013 at the location of the prairie dog town north of Marathon, TX along US 385. The bird was perched on stub poles, the remains of an old telephone line, very close to the highway. The bird paid no attention to passing traffic or me parked right across the highway. Eventually the bird flew displaying the characteristic white tail and wing patches of a ferruginous hawk and landed out in the prairie dog town field.
