Collared Plover

Male collared plover. This bird is reportedly only the second sighting of the species in the US. The bird has been staying on the sandy shore of a small lake adjacent to a cotton field at the edge of the tiny town of Hargill in south Texas. The normal range of collared plovers extends from the southwest coast of Mexico through Central America and including much of South America. <br />
This sequence of photos was taken on August 7, 2014 at a distance of 30 yards or more and so the photos are heavily cropped even though I was using a 500mm lens with 1.4x extender on a Canon 7D.
